We have a wide selection, consisting of many varieties, of these popular beauties:
Red Velvet Iris
Often called the perfect perennial, daylilies are a huge family of more than 100,000 cultivars registered with the American Hemerocallis Society (AHS.) Each has its own unique characteristics — shapes, sizes and color.
Not a true lily, this wonderful plant is actually a hemerocallis, from the Greek terms for “day” and “beauty”. As the name suggests, each beautiful flower lasts but one day — but to make up for this brevity each plant scape (stem) contains many flower buds awaiting their turn to bloom.
True lilies grow from a bulb; daylilies have a mass of thickened fleshy roots. They are propagated by division, and they should be planted in sun or partial sun. Once established they can be drought tolerant but do appreciate consistent moisture. They are not considered deer resistant.
Walker County Master Gardeners are volunteers committed to education and outreach on a wide variety of horticultural subjects. Our association was founded in 2001 and is part of the Texas Master Gardeners Association.
WALKER COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS
TX A&M Agri-Life Extension
Master Gardeners are members of the local community who take an active interest in their lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and gardens. They are enthusiastic, willing to learn and to help others, and able to communicate with diverse groups of people.
What really sets Master Gardeners apart from other home gardeners is their special training in horticulture. In exchange for their training, persons who become Master Gardeners contribute time as volunteers, working through their cooperative Extension office to provide horticultural information and education back to their communities. If you are interested in becoming an Extension Master Gardener, contact your AgriLife Extension office.
