We bought it 9 years ago with the intention of treating it like an annual, planning to enjoy it that summer until it inevitably would die with the first freeze. And when the freezes began, it sure enough turned to mush, so we cut it to the ground and threw away the remains. That was a hard winter, so imagine our surprise when the next spring, up it popped from the roots! And not just 1 but 4-5 little shoots! We split off and dug up all but 1 and it was 7+ feet tall by the end of the season. And this cycle repeats every year! What a plant this is!
